Friendship on the soccer field leads to mentor partnership

Linda and MyraWhen Business Rental Sales Manager Linda B. joined the Sacramento operating group’s indoor soccer team, she was looking for a way to get to know a new batch of up-and-coming Enterprise employees.

“I remember when I met Myra B. on the soccer field – she was determined, focused and persistent,” says Linda. “She embodied all the qualities you look for in a teammate both on the field and in the branch.”

That rapport would expand as the two teamed up off the field as part of the operating group’s Formal Mentoring Program.

Chris and MikeChris, a Talent Acquisition Specialist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, gained important insights from his mentor, Mike. Mike, Shared Services Director in Tulsa, mentored Chris for almost a year starting in 2016.

“Mike manages three departments, so working with him gave me the opportunity to speak to someone who sees solutions at a higher level,” Chris says. “Gaining his perspective helped me understand how an upper-level manager addresses issues and finds opportunities.”

Luis has been performing these feats for more than 13 years in the vehicle rental industry in Puerto Rico, first with National and Alamo, now with Enterprise Holdings overseeing all three brands.

Mentoring program builds future leaders

Derrick M. was a bright young accounting professional looking to start his career with a successful company that offered opportunities for career growth. He had just graduated from the University of Tennessee when he decided to join Enterprise’s East Tennessee Region office in Knoxville in 2012. A year later, his promising career hit a bump in the road.

“I found out that the path to success isn’t always easy, especially early in your career as you learn a new business and adapt to the culture of the company,” Derrick says. “I was struggling with what my next steps would be at Enterprise.”
