For the love of the game

loveofgameWhile many children grow up playing sports in school or with community teams, not many go on to play competitive sports as adults.

Enterprise Management Trainee Olivia D. is an exception.

The New Brunswick, Canada MT was selected to represent Team Canada this summer at the 2015 International Women’s Rugby Super Series, where they took on New Zealand, the United States and England. Team Canada put up a good fight, but New Zealand ultimately took home the world championship trophy.

After playing hockey for several years — the unofficial national sport of Canada — Olivia first tried her hand at rugby in middle school. “I love the team atmosphere and the way rugby has a place for everyone no matter what your shape or size,” she says. “I love the feeling of empowerment I get when I play.”

While attending St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Olivia competed in four National Championships and brought home gold twice. She also won silver playing for Team Canada at the World Cup of Rugby last summer in Paris.

“I am really proud of my accomplishments in the sport of rugby and hope to continue this success in the next world cup in 2017,” says Olivia. “Of course, none of this success would be possible without the help of my friends, family and various sponsors I have had over the years. This includes my Enterprise team for allowing me the flexibility to pursue my passion.”

Aside from her love of the game, Olivia also credits rugby with helping her on the job. “Playing rugby has helped me come out of my shell and become more outgoing, which is an important skill for providing great customer service,” says Olivia. “Also, knowing how to be a team player definitely contributes to a successful career at Enterprise.”

“Olivia continues to develop not only as a solid MT but also as a great emerging leader,” says Assistant Manager Jacques L.“Working with Olivia has been a pleasure, and I take great pride in telling the world that I work alongside a world-class athlete.”
